Egypt to Establish First Mining and Phosphate Technology School

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Hanan Magdy, New Valley Governor, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol to establish the Misr Phosphate International School of Applied Technology in Kharga City.

The school will specialize in mining and phosphate ores, targeting the graduation of 100 skilled technicians annually to support the expansion of the mining and mineral-processing industries.

The agreement was signed by Ayman Bahaa-Eldin, Deputy Minister of Education for Technical Education; and Nasser Shaheen, Chairman of Misr Phosphate Company.

The school will operate under an integrated technological complex and dual-education system for three years. Graduates will receive an accredited Technical Secondary School Diploma in Applied Technology  in addition to an accredited certificate of practical experience after completing the required training.

The initiative brings together the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, New Valley Governorate Misr Phosphate Company, and the academic partner, Galaxy for Development (GFD), a dynamic consulting and training firm driving sustainable change across Egypt and the MENA region.

Misr Phosphate Company was established in 2009 as an Egyptian joint-stock company owned by the National Investment Bank, the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority, EGPC, and GANOPE. It is one of Egypt’s leading phosphate rock producers, operating mines in Abu Tartour, El Sebaia, and the Red Sea, with a production capacity of around 5 million tons annually.

The company is also expanding into value-added phosphate industries, including the development of a phosphoric acid complex in the New Valley and a phosphate fertilizer complex in Sokhna with international partner Indorama.
