Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi and Bahraini Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa met today to discuss the progress of Eni’s activities in Bahrain, which are presently focused on gas production and carbon capture, energy transition, and circular economy.

He also met with the chairman of the Oil & Gas Holding Company Nogaholding Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Bahraini Minister of Oil & Environment Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Daina.

Discussions focused on cooperation aimed at strengthening the partnership in the framework of a sustainable development framework as well as complementing oil and gas with renewables. This is in addition to other decarbonization initiatives with a particular focus on the development of a carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) project in partnership with Nogaholding. Eni’s initiative complies fully with Bahrain’s goal to reach zero carbon emissions.

Additionally, Eni and Nogaholding discussed possible joint cooperation initiatives, including solutions for optimizing upstream production in deep gas structures, bio-refineries, and bio-feed.

Eni, through its environmental company Eni Rewind, is already working with Nogaholding to assess business opportunities for the management and valorization of water, soil, landfills, and industrial waste using Eni’s proprietary e-hyrec technology.

Together with Tatweer Petroleum, Eni is also evaluating onshore and offshore opportunities in the upstream sector.
