Prime Minister Sherif Ismail,  and Petroleum Minister Tarek El Molla are to meet with Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Cyprus’ Energy Minister today to discuss energy, reported Cyprus Mail.

According to an official announcement by the Cypriot energy ministry, Lakkotrypis, is on a flash visit to Cairo to “review ways of further strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt on hydrocarbons issues.”

Lakkotrypis had previously stated that Egypt’s Zohr discovery extends to their economic zone, and that the country is in fact in efforts to prove this claim. Even if proven untrue, Cyprus is still concerned by the mega discovery, as Egypt may no longer need to import gas from its Aphrodite field.
