Egypt’s LNG Exports Reach a Remarkable 600,000 Tons in April Alone

Egypt exported about 600,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during April 2023, a source in the petroleum sector told Al-Ahram Gate.

The total amount of LNG that Egypt exported during the period from the beginning of January to April rose to 2.5 million tons, the source revealed.

Egypt’s LNG exports Q1 2023 were about 1.9 million tons. According to preliminary estimates, the two liquefied gas stations in Damietta and Idku exported around 1.44 million tons to European markets, the European Union (EU); Turkey; and Britain, equivalent to about 76% of Egypt’s total LNG exports during the quarter. Asian markets received the remaining amount, about 0.46 million tons, with a share of 24% of the total.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla previously confirmed that the petroleum sector doubled its efforts in 2022 to increase production as well as accelerate the development and modernization of the sector’s infrastructure.

During the past year, the Ministry of Petroleum, led by El Molla, succeeded in achieving a record number of Egyptian natural gas exports, reaching 8 million tons, compared to about 7 million tons in 2021.
