The Egyptian oil and gas sector has invested a total of EGP 6.5 billion to expand its pipeline systems to transport and distribute petroleum products and natural gas, an official source at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) told Amwal Al Ghad.
Expanding natural gas transportation comes in line with the country’s establishment of new electricity-generating power plants, as well as the expansion of national projects that need natural gas, the source said, adding that the total expanded pipelines reached 1.1 million kilometers (km).
The sector is further working on projects to boost the storage capacities of petroleum products in all the governorates in order to secure fuel reserves to cover citizens’ needs.
