Egypt’s diesel consumption exceeded 1 million tons in February 2019 across all the sectors in the country, Abed Ezz El Regal, head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), told Amwal Al Ghad.
The country’s refinery production capacity ranged between 500,000 and 550,000 tons in February 2019, covering around 50% of consumption, Ezz El Regal noted, adding that Egypt secures the remaining amounts through imports.
Most of local diesel production is directed to cover citizens’ demands and the electric power plants that uses diesel besides natural gas.
Securing demands of petroleum products and natural gas comes on top of the priorities of the Ministry of Petroleum, Ezz El Regal stated.
During 2019, Egypt will add crude oil and natural gas fields to production, which will have a positive impact on the country’s output and will bridge the gap between supply and demand.
