Representing Egypt, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, took part in the 10th Global Energy Forum in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Atlantic Council, a non-profit American think tank,  alongside high-level government officials, global energy executives, and investors. The forum focuses on advancing the global energy agenda amid evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics, highlighting innovation, supply security, and the integration of artificial intelligence into the energy sector, noted a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

During the event, Badawi participated in a special fireside chat themed “Energy, Diplomacy, and Regional Stability in the Middle East”, where he underscored that the petroleum and mineral resources sectors prioritise maximising Egypt’s resource potential and distinctive capabilities through strengthened collaboration with leading international and regional partners.

He noted that the Ministry is fostering a competitive investment climate through ongoing financial and contractual reviews, thereby channeling capital to fast-track field development and boost oil and gas output. The fireside chat was moderated by Frederick Kempe, President and CEO of the Atlantic Council, which organizes this event in cooperation with the US Department of Energy.

Moreover, Badawi’s visit to the US also saw him meet with Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). The two sides discussed ways to strengthen strategic cooperation in oil and natural gas while increasing Kuwaiti investments in Egypt’s energy sector.

The meeting highlighted promising investment opportunities in exploration and production in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Western Desert, with Badawi urging greater participation by KPC and its subsidiaries to boost output and resource utilization. Discussions also addressed leveraging KPC’s expertise in major regional projects, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean, to enhance Arab energy market integration and energy security.

Badawi further participated in the opening session of the US-Gulf Energy Infrastructure Summit, organized by the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center in partnership with the US Department of Energy, upon an official invitation. In his remarks, Badawi emphasized Egypt’s role as a provider of integrated strategic solutions that link energy producers with consumers through a comprehensive and resilient infrastructure. He pointed to Egypt’s extensive natural gas infrastructure and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities along the Mediterranean coast, as well as its advanced refining and petrochemical assets.

Badawi’s visit to Washington also included participation in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF2026) on June 9, where he further underscored Egypt’s strategic role as a regional energy hub.
