Badawi Meets US, Greek Counterparts on Energy Cooperation

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright at the US Department of Energy headquarters to discuss expanding the strategic energy and mining partnership between the two nations.

The meeting, which concluded Badawi’s official visit to the United States, was attended by Motaz Zahran, Egypt’s Ambassador to Washington. Discussions focused on accelerating investment opportunities, technology transfer, and technical expertise exchange.

Badawi emphasized Egypt’s long-standing energy alliance with the US, describing it as a cornerstone for bilateral cooperation across oil, natural gas, infrastructure, technology, and capacity building. He stressed that regular high-level engagement between the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and the US Department of Energy remains vital to deepening joint coordination. Furthermore, both sides explored leveraging US expertise to transform Egypt’s mining sector into a primary driver of economic growth and foreign direct investment.

Badawi’s visit to Washington also included participation in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF2026), the 10th Global Energy Forum, and a meeting with the Deputy Chairman and CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).

He also held separate talks with Stavros Papastavrou, Greece’s Minister of Environment and Energy, to advance the Egyptian-Greek strategic energy partnership.

Badawi underscored the progress achieved in recent years, stressing the necessity of transitioning from planning to executing practical regional projects that secure energy supply and deliver mutual economic benefits. Both ministers highlighted Egypt and Greece’s pivotal roles in driving EMGF objectives, noting that the forum’s updated long-term strategy provides a major framework to accelerate regional integration, advance project development, and attract essential infrastructure investments.
