Minister of Petroleum and Mineral resources, Karim Badawi conducted a field visit at Alexandria Port to oversee the preparations plan for the US regasification unit Energos Power to be docked at Ain Sokhna Port.
This comes as part of ongoing field follow-ups and intensified preparations by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to ensure full readiness of the petroleum sector’s infrastructure to meet the rising demand for natural gas, especially from power stations and critical sectors during the summer months.
During the visit, Minister Badawi reviewed the progress of technical work and necessary modifications on the vessel, which had recently arrived at Alexandria Port, and stressed the importance of expediting the preparations while fully adhering to safety, occupational health, and environmental protection standards.
He noted that Egypt now has three regasification vessels—one already operating at SUMED Port in Sokhna, while the other two, including Energos Power, are being prepared for connection at SUMED and Sonker terminals in Ain Sokhna. This integrated system aims to diversify supply sources and ensure the sustainability of fuel flows, particularly in light of current regional challenges.
Badawi also emphasized the continued close coordination between the Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity and all relevant entities, in line with directives from the Prime Minister, to ensure the stability of fuel supply to power stations—whether through natural gas or liquid fuels (mazut and diesel).
