As part of his visit to the petroleum facilities at Ain Sokhna Port on the Red Sea coast, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, visited Sonker Bulk Liquids Terminal (SBLT): Basin-3, Sokhna Port.
The terminal was established as one of Egypt’s most important strategic hubs on the RedSea coast, alongside SUMED facilities for receiving, exchanging, and storing petroleum products and imported liquified natural gas (LNG), and pumping it back into the national grid after regasification.
Badawi asserted Egypt’s full support for efforts to develop and enhance the infrastructure for storing and trading petroleum products, enhancing Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub and ensuring the sustainability of providing and securing the fuel requirements for the local market and various economic sectors.
The Minister visited the reservoirs area, the offshore platform, and the control room of Sonker station, as well as Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) operations for establishing a natural gas pipeline to connect Sonker facilities to the national gas grid, with a diameter of 36 inches and a length of 17 km, implemented by PETROJET.
