The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with a delegation from Huawei, led by Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of Global Marketing, Sales, and Services, Huawei Digital Power, Charles Yang, to explore means to enhance cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, clean energy, and hydrogen.

Badawi emphasized the critical role of digital technologies in improving operational efficiency across all aspects of the petroleum sector, especially in accelerating exploration, research, and production activities.

He indicated that ongoing projects are focused on creating added value in petrochemical, mining, hydrogen, and other industries.

The minister added that cooperation with Huawei extends to projects aimed at replacing diesel with renewable energy for electricity generation at petroleum working sites. He welcomed the company’s interest in expanding its operations in Egypt and strengthening cooperation with the petroleum sector across various fields. Badawi also invited the delegation to attend the upcoming Egypt Mining Forum, scheduled for July.

Meanwhile, Yang highlighted that the Middle East and Africa are key regions for Huawei’s operations. He noted that the company cooperates with the petroleum sector to implement solar energy projects for electricity generation at work sites and aims to provide similar solutions for mining sites.

Notably, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Egypt during the Egypt International Energy Exhibition and Conference (EGYPES 2025) to implement a pilot project for generating electricity to power wells using photovoltaic energy.
