Key Partnerships at EGYPES 2025 Propel Egypt’s Energy Sector Towards Efficiency, Sustainability

During the third day of Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPES 2025) Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources signed a framework agreement with the UK-based Shard Capital to establish a petrochemical complex in New Alamein City.

The project, which involves an investment of $7 billion, will be developed in cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Qahtani Group.

Minister Badawi, who attended the signing ceremony, affirmed that the project would work to maximize the added value of Egypt’s natural resources by boosting production and exports.

He pointed out that the new complex will adopt the technologies necessary for environmental sustainability and efficiency in line with the highest global environmental standards, in addition to developing the surrounding area and the local community.

Besides, Minister Karim Badawi witnessed the signing of two agreements with investments of $13.5 million to increase crude oil production in the Western Desert

The first one was an amendment to the Yadma area agreement in the Western Desert between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the IPR International Group, which includes the partner investing $10 million, drilling four development wells, and paying a signature grant of $3 million.

The second agreement, meanwhile, was signed between the EGPC and the Tunisian company HBS and stipulates that the partner would inject investments of approximately $3.5 million, drill 4 development wells and an exploratory well in south Dabaa Block and pay a signature bonus of $2 million.

Within the efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to enhance the operation safety system and based on its strategy to improve risk management and prevent accidents to preserve lives, the environment, and property, Badawi witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and Methanex Egypt.

The MoU aims to develop risk management systems and enhance the culture of operation safety in the petroleum sector. It also includes implementing a pilot project in one of the sector’s companies to implement an integrated system for managing operation safety, with the help of specialized consultants and graduates of capacity building programs, to ensure implementation following the highest local and international standards.

Accordingly, a specialized diploma in Operations Safety Management will be launched in partnership with the American University in Cairo, to qualify Egyptian cadres according to the latest international practices.

Aligning with  the Ministry of Petroleum’ fifth pillar to reduce emissions and support low-carbon energy sources, a MoU was signed between the Ministry and the Chinese Anton Oilfield Technology Group to cooperate in the fields of utilization of flare gases and generation of renewable energy.

The MoU includes capacity building and preparing technical and economic feasibility studies for projects to utilize flare gases to reduce emissions and achieve optimal economic exploitation through various applications. The cooperation also includes expanding the generation of renewable energy in the facilities of oil and gas companies, which contributes to improving the efficiency and sustainability of operational activities through the use of renewable energy sources.

In this context, work will be done to identify the most suitable locations for petroleum companies to implement pilot projects in these areas to support efforts to provide sustainable energy resources.

The Ministry has also signed a MoU with Huawei Egypt to cooperate in the field of solar energy projects and renewable energy networks.

As per the MoU, Huawei will implement a pilot project that includes the use of photovoltaic energy, a microgrid system, and batteries to reduce the work of diesel-powered generators to generate the electricity needed to feed a group of wells, at one of the production sites in the petroleum sector. This project will start during the first half of 2025with Huawei bearing all the costs of the pilot project.

MOPCO, EPROM Expand Global Footprint in Energy Sector

Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) signed a cooperation agreement and an MoU with Germany’s ThyssenKrupp to develop a $220 million carbon capture project, the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East.

The agreement involves the capture of CO2 from MOPCO ammonia plant. The project is expected to cut emissions by 150 thousand tons per year, increase urea production by 10%, and improve natural gas efficiency by another 10%.

The agreement also aims to develop and rehabilitate MOPCO’s three urea plants to produce the TGU necessary to produce AdBlue, which is used to remove harmful nitrogen oxides from vehicle emissions.

ThyssenKrupp will conduct the feasibility studies needed for the project, as well as handle the engineering designs and provide technical support.

In continuation of its efforts to implement the Ministry’s strategic vision of expanding the activities of petroleum sector companies in foreign markets and enhancing their global competitiveness, Egyptian Projects Operations and Maintenance (EPROM) has succeeded in adding new projects to its record of achievements in the oil refining sector in Nigeria.

In this context, EPROM signed a new contract with the NETCO a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to provide technical services for pre-commissioning and initial operation of the Warri refinery with a production capacity of 125,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), and Kaduna refinery with a production capacity of 110,000 bbl/d, in addition to the second phase of the Port Harcourt refinery with a production capacity of 150,000 bbl/d.

Besides, EPROM has signed a MoU with Micro Engineering Egypt (MEEG) that aims to provide advanced and innovative services in several fields including modernization and data transfer operations using the latest digital technologies such as 3D Modeling, Digital Twin, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

The MoU aims to enhance the technical skills of workers in various sectors, which contributes to the development of human competencies including preparing analytical reports and smart dashboards that support decision-making processes and help improve projects operation.

EPROM has also signed a MoU with IFPT, a subsidiary of the global IFP Group. to enhance technical competencies and develop skills according to the latest international standards. This MoU follows the significant success achieved by EPROM engineers in IFPT’s training programs, with 12 out of 14 engineers nationwide successfully completing the programs and obtaining official certification as accredited trainers from IFPT.

In this context, both companies aim to strengthen their cooperative efforts by developing specialized training programs, enhancing technical and work efficiency, and exchanging expertise. This partnership will support EPROM’s future projects and enable the utilization of the company’s expertise in providing technical services for IFPT’s projects worldwide.

EGPC Boosts Operational Excellence, Environment Sustainability

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has signed a framework agreement with Halliburton Energy Services Egypt to deliver cutting-edge Landmark solutions and applications at reduced prices to the Egyptian petroleum sector.

This agreement aims to revolutionize drilling engineering by integrating the latest technologies, enabling data-driven decision-making, and enhancing the planning and design of drilling operations through precise data analysis. The agreement also focuses on improving the monitoring and analysis of drilling and well maintenance operations, ensuring higher efficiency and operational excellence in the petroleum industry.

EGPC has also signed an agreement with SLB to launch smart DrillOps solutions for drilling and analyzing wells in real-time. This cooperation aims to provide the petroleum sector with digital tools to improve drilling performance, and operational efficiency, and reduce operational risks through artificial intelligence technologies.

Besides, EGPC has signed MoU with Huawei to enhance the occupational safety, and health, and protect the environment in the petroleum sector using artificial intelligence technologies.

This MoU provides integrated solutions that include enabling safety officers to verify and search for incidents related to non-compliance with regulations, monitoring smoking cases in prohibited areas at work sites, enhancing safety standards through fire detection systems, immediate monitoring, and issuing alerts in the event of violations, and supporting compliance with occupational safety and health standards.

EGPC has signed a MoU with IPR and Pharos companies to amend two commitment agreements that include merging the North Beni Suef and Fayoum commitment areas agreements. This MoU aims to start negotiations on concluding a new commitment agreement of a promising work program to pump more investments to increase production and achieve maximum benefit from the areas in a way that serves the interests of the companies.

EGPC has signed a MoU with a Russian Emirati Italian alliance for emission reduction through the integration of carbon capture and utilization technology for the production of green methanol. This agreement aims to explore opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions and carbon footprints in the facilities of affiliated petroleum companies.

The project will involve creating an integrated system to capture carbon emissions from various petroleum and gas industry activities, including flare gases, stack gases, furnaces, and direct streams, during the refining and petrochemical processes.

These captured emissions will be converted into high-value products, specifically green methanol. The methanol production unit will be powered by a solar energy station.

The project will be implemented first at Cairo Oil Refining Company to reduce the environmental load in the area. Subsequent phases will be implemented in other refining companies.

The project aims to produce at least 50,000 tons annually in the initial stages, with the potential for increased production.

ENPPI Drives Innovation and Sustainable Development

ENPPI has signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education Affairs to establish ENPPI School for Applied Technology in Artificial Intelligence, affiliated with the East Nasr City Education Administration in Cairo Governorate.

This cooperation comes within the framework of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ commitment to its social responsibility, and ENPPI’s keenness to support the community and achieving sustainable development.

ENPPI has signed a cooperation agreement with SLB for boosting partnership and exchange of expertise in upstream, midstream and energy transition projects.

ENPPI signed a cooperation agreement with the Italian company Saipem to foster international cooperation in various engineering activities and he execution of specialized technical services and projects. This will impact the successful project implementation, thereby establishing long-term partnership.

ENPPI has signed a cooperation agreement with SLB and Subsea Integration Alliance SIA partners, Subsea7 and OneSubsea, in line with the ongoing cooperation between the companies in offshore renewables and new energy as well as traditional oil and gas projects and related offshore energy projects located primarily in Egypt.

ENPPI has signed a cooperation agreement with Subsea7 to provide project management, design and engineering services relevant to oil and gas, energy transition, and offshore energy projects.

ENPPI has signed a contract with Wood Company that aims to enhance cooperation and exchange of professional services in the field of designing projects in the gas, oil and energy sectors.

This MoU is in line with ENPPI’s strategy to enhance its competitive edge, broaden its market reach, expand its business portfolio, and deliver world class services in the global market.

A contract was signed between the coalition consisting of ENPPI, WOOD Group Kenny Ireland Limited (WGK) and Shell with Burullus Gas Company to provide technical assurance services and engineering services for the West Delta Deep Water Development Project (Phase 11).

ENPPI has signed a cooperation agreement with Arab Contractors to strengthen ties between the two companies to implement joint projects in the field of construction in the MENA region and Africa.

ENPPI has signed a cooperation agreement with Technip Energies aimed at exchanging professional services in the field of project management and technology consulting in the energy sector.

ENPPI has signed an important cooperation protocol for training services with El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO). This agreement aims to build the capacities of human resources in Wasco, refine their skills, and develop their job competencies in addition to implementing specialized training programs that meet the needs of employees and contribute to the development of their skills and capabilities in various fields.

Strategic Partnerships for Engineering Solutions, Energy Efficiency

Egyptian Natural Gas Distribution Company (Town Gas) has signed a cooperation protocol with Siemens to enhance capabilities and provide innovative solutions for the energy sector and benefit from the human, technical and logistical capabilities of the two companies. It also aims to provide technical support for all joint projects, especially control panels for low and medium-power stations and SCADA systems.

The Petroleum Marine Services Company (PMS) has signed a MoU with the UK Longitude Engineering company to enhance technical cooperation and provide advanced engineering solutions for the marine petroleum sector in addition to providing the necessary training and qualification services in this regard.

This MoU contributes to strengthening PMS’ position in the marine petroleum construction market and providing advanced solutions that support its operations in implementing marine lines according to the latest international standards.

PMS has also signed a MoU with UK ABL Group to enhance cooperation by providing engineering and consulting services to support PMS in the energy transformation of its marine units through the HYBRID SYSTEM, which contributes to reducing carbon emissions and improving the efficiency of marine operations.

Egyptian Maintenance Company (EMC) has signed a MoU with Emerson Egypt LLC that aims to improve energy efficiency and enhance digital transformation by applying the latest technologies in the field of integrated measurement systems. The agreement includes projects to measure tank levels and monitor emissions resulting from combustion operations, reflecting the two companies’ commitment to innovation and sustainability.

EMC has signed a MoU with Energy China that focuses on cooperation in solar energy projects, digital transformation, and advanced water desalination technologies.

EMC has signed a MoU with Spirax Sarco aimed at implementing energy efficiency projects using advanced steam control systems, which enhances the operational performance of industrial and petroleum facilities.
