The US company Cobalt International has made a “significant” discovery of condensates and natural gas in the Zalophus # 1 well in Block 20 in the Angolan sea, the company said in a statement according to MacauHub. According to estimates, the exploitation of these new reserves would yield 2mbp/d for three years, Prensa Latina added.
Cobalt currently works as the block’s operator, with a stake of 40%, in association with Sonangol (30%) and BP Exploration Angola (Kwanza Benguela, 30%). This is the third discovery in Block 20 and the sixth in the Angolan pre-salt layer.
Crude oil production in Angola increased by 6% in 2015, compared to the previous year. The discover will help Angola to increase production, which now stands at 1.8mb/d.
