Spoolable Composite Flexpipe

For the first time in Egypt, Shawcor introduces the spoolable composite Flexpipe, which is specifically designed to withstand high pressure and corrosion. The Flexpipe models come with over 40,000 kilometers of pipe and 150,000 fittings that have been installed worldwide since 2003. Through utilizing composite production systems (CPS), the spoolable composite Flexpipe is corrosion-resistant, cost-effective, and an improved alternative to steel pipes.

Port of Beirut Incident: Can It Take A Century to Learn from Mistakes?

On August 4, a major fire broke out in a Port of Beirut warehouse and spread to 2,750 tonnes of stored ammonium nitrate. In the past, many incidents have occurred with ammonium nitrate: quite a few of them with disastrous consequences, often developing in a similar pattern to what we saw in Beirut. How could this happen? Was it an unlucky chain of events, or the result of a deliberate malicious act? Can we consider this as an incidental ‘freak’ accident?

Trustworthy Digital Twins Power A More Efficient Future

Establishing trust will be key to the adoption of digital twins. Companies will only be able to extract maximum value from a digital twin if they are assured that it will function as specified. It is vital that companies in this space use a structured, systematic approach to ensure performance matches expectations, including setting clear goals and managing working processes. That is why TechnipFMC and DNV GL are developing the oil and gas industry’s first methodology for qualifying the integrity of digital twin technology.

Integrated Protection and Detection A Holistic Approach for Critical Infrastructure Protection by Frank Beyer, ILF Consulting Engineers

The physical, electronic and operational security of critical infrastructure is subject to a wide range of threats. A significant increase in attempts to manipulate the related operation technology (OT) systems can be observed. The attacks against a Ukrainian power grid can be taken as an example of what such attempts look like. They are usually a combination of several coordinated activities, with the aim not only to provoke maximum damage to a system and to destroy the security of supply, but also to hinder response and recovery/restoration works as long as possible. Another example is the attack against a safety integrated system of a process plant using a tailor-made malware. This shows that not only the basic process control systems, but also the emergency shutdown systems are the subject of dedicated attacks.
