Badawi Discusses Mining Cooperation with Baker Hughes

On the sidelines of Baker Hughes annual meeting,held in Florence, Italy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli to accelerate cooperation across new and existing energy sectors. The talks focused on fast-tracking previously agreed areas of collaboration following the completion of ongoing technical studies. Progress was reviewed on natural gas storage projects with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and geothermal energy development with South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope).

For the first time, the two sides discussed cooperation in the mining sector, outlining how Baker Hughes' advanced technologies could support Egypt’s growing mining industry. The company reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA), discussed a timeline for deploying advanced mining technologies in Egypt, and explored potential collaboration in strategic and rare minerals.

Nile Petroleum Expands Fuel Station Network to 81 in 2025

Nile Petroleum Company, a state-owned firm primarily focused on marketing, distributing, and retailing petroleum products nationwide, has added five new fueling stations, bringing its local network to 81. It also upgraded nine stations and reported increased sales of high-quality 95-octane gasoline. This was announced during the company’s General Assembly held at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) headquarters.

At the meeting, Chairman Ibrahim Mowafi outlined developments in 2025, including upgrades at the Nile depot in the Assiut Petroleum Geographical Area, expanded transport capacities, and enhancements to the high-performance lubricants production system (5W-40).

Kuwait Oil Company Awards landmark Drilling Deal to Egypt’s EDC

The Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) has been awarded a new contract to operate a 1,500-horsepower (HP) onshore drilling rig for the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), marking the first time an Egyptian company secures a drilling mandate of this scale with the Kuwaiti giant. Operations are scheduled to start in 2027.

The contract represents a strategic milestone in EDC’s expansion plan within the Gulf market, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR). The move aligns with the MoPMR's broader strategy to bolster the presence of Egyptian national service companies in international markets.

China’s Xingfa to Develop Mining Project in Golden Triangle

China’s Xingfa Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with  the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA), Misr Phosphate Company, El Wadi El Gedid for Mineral Resources and Oil Shale (WADiCO),   to develop an integrated industrial project for phosphate, quartz, and silica sand in the Golden Triangle region.

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, witnessed the signing of the MoU which aims to assess the feasibility of establishing an integrated industrial project focused on maximizing the added value of these mineral resources, as part of Egypt’s broader strategy to develop its mining sector and enhance downstream manufacturing, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

France’s Technip Energies in Talks to Launch JV with Enppi and PETROJET

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held talks with high-level representatives from Technip Energies, a global leader in energy transition technologies, to finalize the executive steps for establishing a joint venture (JV) with Egypt's Enppi and the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET).

The strategic alliance aims to execute major engineering and contracting projects both within Egypt and across international markets, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

Egypt Clears 2025 Arrears to Energean with $80Mn Payment

Energean has received $80 million in outstanding dues from the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), marking the final settlement for 2025, according to a press release by Energean. The company stated that it is preparing a multi-well exploration campaign, starting with drilling activates at the East Bir El-Nus (EBEN) onshore prospect in the Western Desert during the second quarter of (Q2) 2026.

SCZONE, Netherlands Explore Cooperation in Green Hydrogen and Renwables

Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), hosted Peter Mollema, the Dutch Ambassador to Egypt, to discuss expanding bilateral investment in renewable energy and green hydrogen production. According to an official statement issued by the SCZONE, the meeting held at the authority’s New Capital headquarters focused on leveraging Egypt’s strategic location and natural resources to support the global energy transition. The Chairman reviewed the progress of high-value projects within the zone, specifically the "Egypt Green Hydrogen" facility. The project is currently on track to export its first shipment of green ammonia to Germany by the end of 2027.

EPC Targets 120,000 Tons PVC Expansion

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has approved the 2026/2027 investment budget for the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company (EPC), emphasizing the company's pivotal role in localizing the production of essential materials for secured documents and national industries. The company reported its operational performance for the first half (H1) of fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR). The company's Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) production reached a five-year high of 41,000 tons, while caustic soda achieved the planned target of 60,000 tons. Moreover, EPC has completed a feasibility study for a new production line with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons.

Badawi Approves SOPC, NPC Investment Plans for FY 2026/2027

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has approved the investment budgets of Suez Oil Processing Company (SOPC) and Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC) for the fiscal year (FY) 2026/2027, focusing on upgrading production units, expanding refining capacity, and improving operational efficiency.

Egypt Exports 150,000 m³ of LNG to Türkiye

Egypt exported in January a new shipment of liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Idku liquefication plant to Türkiye aboard the METHANE BECKI ANNE carrier, transporting 150,000 cubic meters (m³) for UK Shell Global, according to the Ministry of petroleum and Mineral Resources.
