Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has appointed Alaa El-Din Abdel Fattah as the new Chairman of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM). He will assume the position on January 1, 2026, succeeding Ibrahim Mekki.

Badawi to Petrocast: Egypt’s 2026 Mediterranean Drilling Campaign Targets 12 tcf of Gas
Egypt will launch one of the largest natural gas exploration campaigns in the Mediterranean in 2026, marking a major step in reviving domestic production and attracting new investments, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said during the first episode of the ministry’s Petrocast.
The year 2026 will see one of the largest exploratory campaigns in the Mediterranean Sea, including 14 exploratory wells targeting some 12 trillion cubic feet of gas (tcf), according to Badawi.
This is part of a broader effort to reverse declining gas and oil production since 2021, attract major international investments, and strengthen national energy security.
