Khaled Mowafy, Chairman of PetroShorouk, announced that the average production at the Zohr field reached approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) of natural gas during fiscal year (FY) 2023/24.
This was revealed during the general assembly of PetroShorouk, the company operating the Zohr field concession, in the presence of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and other industry leaders.
Minister Karim Badawi confirmed that the Zohr natural gas field in the Mediterranean Sea will undergo new drilling operations by Italy’s Eni in the coming period. These efforts aim to develop gas reserves and capitalize on opportunities to boost gas production from the field, which holds strategic importance for both Egypt and the broader Mediterranean region.
The general assembly, attended by petroleum sector leaders and investment partners—including Eni as the main operator, along with BP, Rosneft, and Mubadala from the UAE—reviewed the progress of operations.
PetroShorouk Chairman Khaled Mowafy presented the work accomplished over the past fiscal year, which helped maintain stable production levels. He also highlighted that over $677 million in investments were made in the field, with plans to drill two new wells in Q1 2025.
Minister Badawi praised the excellent health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance at the Zohr field, particularly the measures taken to reduce flare gases and promote environmentally sustainable practices. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and the integration of new technologies to fully leverage the field’s potential, especially from deeper layers, in pursuit of further success stories.
