United Energy Egypt (UEE) has successfully implemented the second phase of its Green Transition (TGT II) project, delivering measurable social, environmental, and economic impact across Borg El Arab and Wadi El Natrun in partnership with the environmental and green consultancy firm You Think Green (YTG), according to a press release by UEE.
The project aims to accelerate sustainable practices across education, agriculture, and industry by equipping local communities with the knowledge, technologies, and resources needed for lasting transformation.
In the education component, more than 65 technical school teachers received specialized training in sustainability and circular economy concepts, which they have since transferred to over 1,500 students — equipping the next generation with green skills for the emerging economy.
The initiative engaged more than 70 farmers, factory workers, and entrepreneurs to identify barriers to sustainable growth and develop tailored solutions. A key agriculture focus involved deploying three solar-powered systems, including two fixed installations, benefiting 11 landowners in Wadi El Natrun.
Moreover, the systems have reduced operating costs, eliminated dependence on conventional electricity after payback, and cut maintenance requirements by up to 60%. One featured farm now operates with fully solar-powered energy, achieving zero electricity costs and zero energy-related emissions.
In the industrial sector, upgrades at one facility reduced annual energy consumption from 219,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 197,100 kWh, generating savings exceeding EGP 54,000. Another intervention localized production, cutting carbon emissions per container by more than 80% and delivering approximately 42% cost savings compared to imported alternatives. Advanced manufacturing equipment also doubled production output from 26,666 to 53,332 units per 12-hour shift while improving workplace safety.
“Through The Green Transition II project, we have demonstrated that sustainability is not only an environmental imperative but also a driver of economic opportunity and community resilience,” said Eng. Kamel Al Sawi, Regional President Africa. “By investing in people, technology, and practical solutions, we are helping create a model for sustainable development that delivers real and measurable impact on the ground.”
The project results underscore the value of integrated approaches combining education, renewable energy, circular economy practices, and industrial innovation in support of Egypt’s sustainable development goals.
The first phase of the Green Transition project engaged more than 10 schools and universities, trained over 650 students in sustainability awareness, and supported multiple student-led initiatives, helping to empower young people as future sustainability leaders.
UEE, established in 2021 as an affiliate of Kuwait Energy Egypt (KEE), is committed to sustainable, long‑term growth in the energy sector. As part of United Energy Group (UEG), the company has rapidly advanced its presence, securing Block 11 in the Western Desert as its first major oil and gas venture in Egypt.
