The UAE Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) is cooperating with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) to launch a new gas-fired power plant, according to the Emirati Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail Al-Mazrouei, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
The new power plant is set to be the most efficient in the UAE. Furthermore, it comes in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to achieve energy security, reduce carbon footprint and excessive energy consumption, and preserve the environment, the minister noted.
“[FEWA] aims to completely utilize reverse osmosis in the desalination process, which is part of the UAE’s water security strategy, through the establishment of a desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain with a production capacity of 150 million gallons,” Al-Mazrouei, who serves as Chairman of FEWA, further told WAM in an interview.
The UAE Minister of Energy’s remarks came on the sidelines of the 24th World Energy Conference, held in Abu Dhabi on September 9-12.
