Schneider Electric in Talks for Work in Dabaa Nuclear Project

Schneider Electric Russia has begun negotiations with the Russian State Atomiс Energy Corporation (Rosatom) to participate in the Dabaa nuclear plant in Egypt, Almal news reports.

Schneider’s decision to participate in the project comes as it is set to be one of the most prominent national projects in Egypt in the upcoming period, according to Walid Sheta, Regional President of Schneider Electric Egypt and North East Africa.

Rosatom visited Schneider factories to identify the company’s production capacities, the specifications and the financial solvency of the factories, Sheta pointed out, adding that the company will compete for electrical works and energy solutions management.

The plant obtained the site permission on March 10 from the National Center for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Control (NCNSRC), which means that it meets the standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA). It consists of four nuclear reactors with a total power-generation capacity of 4,800 megawatts (MW), 1,200 MW per each reactor, with a total investment of $ 25 billion.

The plant’s first reactor is expected to begin operations in 2026.
