The 10th Egypt Oil and Gas Conference witnessed a panel discussion on safety and sustainability.
Panelists included Alaa El Batal, First Undersecretary for HSE, Energy Efficiency and Climate at the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources; Iman Hill, Egypt Country Manager at VAALCO Energy; Kamel Al-Sawi, President of United Energy Egypt; Karim El-Dessouky, General Manager for Bechtel Egypt S.A.E. and Vice President for Bechtel Overseas Corporation; and Mohamed Shindy, Managing Director at Methanex Egypt.
El Batal emphasized that the ministry is committed to prioritizing safety in the petroleum industry to mitigate risks, protect workers and resources, and ensure safe operations. This commitment also includes fostering a culture of safety among all industry personnel and raising awareness about the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations.
During the session, discussions among the heads of participating international companies centered on the programs and initiatives these companies are implementing to enhance occupational safety and health. They also highlighted key requirements necessary for promoting a safety culture among workers.
They also highlighted the importance of adopting practices and methods that support oil and gas production with the lowest carbon emissions, especially since oil and gas will be major sources of energy supply to the world for decades to come.
