Power Stations Receive Record Natural Gas Supply to Face Heat Wave

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources recorded unprecedented natural gas consumption rates by the power stations that amounted to 5,210 billion cubic feet of gas equivalent per day (bcfe/d) on August 4 and 5, the ministry said in a press release.

The ministry added that the consumption rates increased by 118% due to the high temperature.

The ministry affirmed its commitment to secure the needs for other sectors such as industry, petrochemicals, houses and natural gas vehicles (NGVS) in addition to exports contracts.

The current consumption of natural gas by power stations reached 4,670 bcfe/d, which represents 67% of local natural gas consumption, in addition to 13,000 tons of mazut to supply their remaining needs.
