PETRONAS to Extend Its Sustainability Solutions to the Middle Easter Market

During the most recent Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) 2022, PETRONAS announced that it will expand its sustainability solutions to the Middle Eastern market through six new supply and commercialization collaborations.

With Sigma Enterprises, a division of Mazrui Energy Services, for the deployment of the SolidClenz and ProAssure Wrap technologies, as well as with Euro-Circuit Technology Sdn. Bhd. for the supply of Bio-Solv, a sustainable and biodegradable water-based chemical for desanding, desludging, degreasing, and cleaning applications, the company’s technology commercialization arm, PETRONAS Technology Ventures Sdn.

In order to improve well flow and production, SolidClenzTM is a specially developed technology that removes solid deposits from wells, pipelines, and heat exchangers. ProAssureTM Wrap is a pipeline repair solution that uses high-strength composite materials for its overwrap.

In order to explore prospects for commercializing PETRONAS’ specialised proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser for hydrogen production, PTVSB also inked Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Petrofac. In addition, PTVSB has entered into an HOA with SEDC Energy Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation, in order to not only establish a PEM assembly plant in Sarawak to meet the rising demand for PEM electrolysers globally but also to investigate the deployment of other green hydrogen technologies in Sarawak and other areas.

In order to fulfill the growing demand for improved battery efficiency in tandem with the advent of electric vehicles, the business also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Connexx Systems Corporation to study the usage of PETRONAS’ graphene formulation for batteries.

PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology, Datuk Bacho Pilong said, “We are excited to enter into the Middle Eastern market and work together with our new partners to widen the reach of PETRONAS innovations, so that more companies and customers can benefit from our solutions which bear the hallmarks of being safe, responsible, cost-optimized, and emissions-abated just like PETRONAS’ energy offerings.

“We are confident about creating high value and far-reaching impact supporting a common sustainability goal for a low-carbon future, as our solutions power businesses and fuel progress,” he added.

PETRONAS has more than 400 commercialized technologies and 4,000 intellectual assets available as solutions for partners and consumers, according to PTVSB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mahpuzah Abai.

“In supporting the global transition towards a low-carbon energy future, technology is key – which is why PETRONAS passionately proffers innovative solutions especially on decarbonization, cleaner energy options, and operational excellence which reduces carbon footprints. We leverage on the power of innovation to bring forth a sustainable future, and we call for greater synergy with like-minded partners where we can tap the potential of these innovations together to enrich lives,” she added.
