Petroleum Ministry: No Truth to Rumors of Fuel Price Increase

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources denied that it currently had any intention to increase prices of petroleum products.

The ministry’s official spokesman Hamdi Abdel Aziz insisted that what had been reported today in a newspaper and on websites was untrue. This was concerning about an increase in gasoline and diesel prices and the cancellation of the 80 petrol variety and its replacement with petrol 85.these are all baseless rumours, he said.

He appealed to citizens not to be deceived by these rumors, and explained that the smart card system would be implemented in the middle of next month in order to discipline the distribution of petroleum products, adding that there was no ceiling on the quantities and that they would be priced at the same level as they are now. He went on to say that fuel would be exchanged to card holders who own vehicles or through the cards at fuel distribution stations.
