Petrobras Starts Deepwater Production in Gulf of Mexico

Petrobras announces the start of production at the Lucius field today. The field is located approximately 236 miles (380 km) southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, in water depths of 7,086 feet.

Lucius was developed with a Truss Spar Floating Production Unit (FPU), a cylindrical shaped vertical platform. The FPU has the capacity to process up to 80,000 barrels of oil per day and 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

A leader in ultra-deepwater operations, Petrobras adds another production asset to its portfolio. Lucius is its fourth ultra-deepwater field in production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. This project brings first oil from a Spar platform for Petrobras, a technical concept different from the Company’s usual solution, but well suited for this type of reservoir in the Gulf of Mexico.

The operator is Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Petrobras is one of seven partners in Lucius, with 11.5% interest. The field is in the Keathley Canyon area of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
