Oil Sector Covers Gas Needs in Electricity Plants

The Egyptian oil and gas sector succeeded in covering the electricity power plants needs of natural gas and fuel to deal with the unprecedented high temperature, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, stated. In the last three days, electricity power plants consumed 138mcm of oil equivalent, including 119mcm of natural gas, of which 82% came from local gas production, Egypt Oil&Gas reported.

Additionally, the oil and gas sector was able to cover the fuel needs of other sectors, especially the industrial needs. Egypt also secured all additional needed gas volumes to meet high consumption.

The oil and gas sector gives priority to cover 100% of the electricity sector’s demands due to its strategic importance, added El Molla. According to the minister, the Ministry of Petroleum’s Gas Control Department is always coordinating with the Ministry of Electricity’s Electricity Control Department.

Moreover, the Ministry of Petroleum is providing alternative liquid fuel to the electricity power plants. The oil and gas sector pumps the alternative liquid fuel to the plants as a backup to ensure the continuity of the work.
