Norway’s DNO Strikes Oil at Peshkabir-1 Well

Norway’s DNO International revealed Monday that it has struck oil at its Peshkabir-1 well, which previously yielded only water.

The well is located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The company said that it had found moveable oil in the Jurassic interval of the well on the Peshkabir field. There was no indication of the amount or quality of the find.

Previous testing at the well had struck water in two Triassic intervals and one of three Cretaceous intervals.

Following the testing of the Jurassic interval, DNO is now considering two additional tests in the Cretaceous zone, it added.

The well was spud in September 2011. It was designed to probe a large un-drilled feature west of the currently producing Tawke field. The company managed to drill to reach a depth of 13,422 feet (4,092 meters) in mid-April.
