Italian Energy giant Eni and BMW Group have signed an agreement to fuel BMW corporate fleet vehicles in Italy with Enilive’s HVOlution, a hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel produced entirely from renewable feedstocks, as the two companies deepen their collaboration on lower-carbon mobility solutions.
The agreement will see BMW corporate fleet vehicles operating across Italy, Germany, and Austria use pure HVO diesel through Enilive’s network of around 1,700 service stations offering HVOlution. Enilive is Eni’s company dedicated to products and services for a more sustainable mobility.
The initiative is part of the companies’ broader efforts to reduce emissions from existing diesel-powered vehicles while supporting Europe’s decarbonization goals. According to Eni, Enilive’s HVO biofuel achieved an average 79.5% reduction in lifecycle CO₂ equivalent emissions in 2025 compared with conventional fossil diesel.
“We are very happy to collaborate with Eni in our test and demo fleet,” said Martin Kaufmann, Senior Vice President of Powertrain Development at BMW Group. “In this case this has more than one benefit: Eni is using BMW vehicles in their corporate fleet, at the same time is Enilive a major force in pushing renewable fuels in Europe. With HVOlution, Enilive has a very good product available delivering CO₂eq emissions reduction every day.”
BMW Group has launched demonstration and development fleets powered by pure HVO diesel. As part of the project, the automaker is testing a digital traceability system that compares vehicle refueling data with fleet operators’ payment records, enabling transparent tracking of the fuel used by each vehicle.
“The development of our cooperation with BMW Group and BMW Italia marks another significant step toward the decarbonization of road transport,” said CEO of Enilive. “As a drop-in fuel, pure HVO does not require engine or fuel distribution infrastructure modifications, making it a readily available solution to accelerate transport decarbonization today.”
Enilive produces HVO biofuel at its biorefineries in Venice and Gela using mainly waste-based feedstocks, including used cooking oil and animal fats. Because it is a “drop-in” fuel, HVO can be used in compatible diesel engines without requiring vehicle modifications.
The latest agreement builds on the existing partnership between Eni and BMW Italia aimed at expanding the use of renewable fuels in road transport.
