MoPMR Holds Methane Reduction Technology Workshop for Young Talents

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), in cooperation with the Center of Excellence for Energy Efficiency and Operational Performance and Carbon Limits Company, has organized a three-day workshop with the participation of more than 60 young cadres from various oil companies.

The workshop aimed to spread awareness about the importance of reducing methane emissions and presenting the available opportunities and modern technologies to reduce its emissions in the sector. It also sought to discuss successful international experiences and various methodologies related to monitoring, measuring and reporting activities on methane emissions.

Reducing methane emissions, which includes emissions from flare gases and production facilities, is one of the main elements of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ action plan to reduce emissions, especially in light of Egypt’s commitment to the Global Methane Pledge in the oil and gas track. This falls under the axis of reducing the carbon intensity of oil and gas sources within the framework of supporting the efforts of the petroleum sector to implement best practices in this regard, in cooperation with international companies.

These efforts reflect the priority given by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to work on reducing emissions and energy transformation. This comes as part of its strategy which includes promoting the use of low-carbon natural gas as a supplement to renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, reducing the carbon intensity of oil and gas sources, expanding the use of renewable energy and producing green petrochemicals, as well as low-carbon hydrogen.
