Japan’s Mitsui & Co announced that its consortium had been awarded a $2.3b power plant project in Oman, to build 3.15GW gas-fired combined cycle power generation units for Ibri and Sohar-3 projects, reported Reuters.
The 15-year contract was awarded by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and is set to be signed next month, according to Trade Arabia. The commercial operations are expected to begin in 2019, and once completed, the new power plants will be supplying 30% of the electricity needs of the Muscat area.
The Mitsui consortium includes Saudi Arabian power company, Acwa Power, and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company of Oman. Mitsui enjoys a 50.1% stake in the consortium, with 44.9% for Acwa Power and 5% for Dhofar.
