Japanese Toshiba Corporation, and Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC) have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding to bring together their expertise in different geothermal areas, and in the field of human resource development, SeeNewsRenewables reported.
Within the scheme, TGDC will provide expertise in resource development and power plant construction, while Toshiba will supply major equipment, create guidelines for operation, and train personnel.
To date, Toshiba has delivered 52 geothermal turbine generators globally, and its total power generation capacity is about 3,400MW, representing the world’s biggest share in geothermal electricity generation of 26 %, Bloomberg reported.
Tanzania has the third-largest geothermal resources in Africa, though the country relies on hydro and fossil fuels for about 97 % of its power supply, according to a Toshiba’s statement. The country plans to increase its total power generation capacity to 10,000MW by 2025, from the current 1,577MW.
