Iran and Turkey signed a Memorandum of Understanding Friday evening for all-out mutual cooperation in the field of energy.
The document was inked at the end of intensive two-day talks between expert teams of Iran and Turkey headed by visiting Minister of Oil of Iran Kazem Vaziri Hamaneh and Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler.
The Iranian minister arrived in Ankara on Friday upon an official invitation of Guler.
The MoU included Tehran-Ankara cooperation in the field of gas and oil transit and their joint investments on energy.
According to the document, Iran’s gas would be transferred to Europe through Turkey while Turkmenistan’s gas would be transferred to Europe through Iran and Turkey.
It also refers to Tehran-Ankara cooperation for exploration of gas fields in Assalouyeh, in southern Iran, as well as development of oil trade between the two capitals.
The Iranian minister is expected to wrap up his visit to Turkey and return to Tehran Saturday afternoon.
