Iran to Develop West Karoun Oil Fields, Eyes 1 mb/d Output Increase

Iran plans to develop 11 oil fields in West Karoun to boost output by 1 million barrels per day (mb/d), Shana News Agency reported.

West Karoun concession contains several oil fields shared by Iraq and Western Iran.

The fields include Arvand and Phase 3 of Darquain field projects.

The Darquain field is set to share the targeted increase by 200,000 b/d.

The field is located in the Khuzestan Province, which lies 45 kilometers north of Khorramshahr city and 100 kilometers south of Ahvaz, the oil rich city.

The field’s output is expected to reach 220,000 b/d upon developing its phase 3.

Darquain phase 3 development is estimated to need $1.5 billion investments to be fulfilled.
