Petroleum Ministry Charts Strategy to Boost Output, Secure Supplies

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, reviewed plans to increase domestic oil and gas production, secure petroleum product supplies, and improve operational efficiency during a meeting with the executive council of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

The meeting, attended by EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Kerim and the corporation’s deputy CEOs, covered production and exploration plans with investment partners, project execution rates, petroleum product supplies, crude oil refining activities, and the efficiency of product transportation and distribution networks, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

Badawi emphasized that increasing domestic production and securing petroleum product supplies remain key priorities, directing EGPC to maximize the use of existing production, refining, and infrastructure capacity while improving the economic performance of its activities and projects.

The minister also called for faster implementation of targeted projects, closer monitoring of performance indicators and the removal of obstacles that could delay production and development plans. He stressed the importance of attracting and incentivizing investment in exploration and production, while maintaining the highest standards for occupational health, safety and environmental protection.

Notably, Egypt’s crude oil production exceeded 540,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) in June, marking a return to growth after a period of declining output, according to the State Information Service.

The recovery has been supported by increased drilling and development activity. In September, EGPC and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) added around 45 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas and 540 bpd of condensates from four wells across the Western Desert, Gulf of Suez and onshore Nile Delta.
