The preliminary investigation into Sunday’s fire at the Aramco residential complex found that the cause was a short circuit, said Arab News.

The short took place in a transformer in the basement, spreading to the vehicles parked there, then spreading to the upper floors of the building.

It took 39 firefighting teams five hours to put out the blaze. 20 rescue teams and ambulances were involved as well. Altogether 259 people were injured.

As for the 10 individuals who died in the fire, three were identified as Canadian, one was a Pakistani and one was a Nigerian, said Trade Arabia.

The three Canadian nationals, it emerged, were of Asian origin.
