The official cost for a liter of gasoline in Egypt is EGP7, said Osama Kamal, the former Minister of Petroleum, in an interview with Egypt Oil & Gas. This is the price at which gasoline is to be sold in local markets and to citizens not eligible for government subsidy.
The price equals the cost of producing gasoline in Egypt, he explained, adding that the cost in the domestic market was much more expensive than the price per liter of imported gasoline.
He also said that the second phase of the smartcards project will end black market fuel smuggling.
