H.E. Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, asserted the importance of developing brownfields, referring to several revival strategies that were used in Egypt. The minister remarks came during Egypt Oil & Gas (EOG) Committee’s virtual roundtable titled ‘Increasing Investments in Egypt’s Brownfields Opportunities’ on Sunday, October 18.
The roundtable delved into several aspects of brownfield development, discussing three main axes; optimum brownfield revival strategies, technology’s role in boosting production of brownfields, and the economic barriers of using brownfields.
During his opening remarks, the minister noted that “Egypt has taken several bold reforms over the past few years on both the government and economic levels,” that allowed it to withstand the pandemic crisis. He also called for further collaboration between the ministry and international oil companies (IOCs) to maximize Egypt’s assets.
Throughout the discussions, figures from IOCs and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) shared their experiences, views and suggestions to best utilize brownfields in Egypt, whether through the implementation of latest technological advancements, optimizing operations, or reducing costs.
During the roundtable, the EOG Committee presented ‘The Brownfield Center of Excellence’ which aims to enhance production and improve the brownfield conditions in Egypt so as to attract further foreign investments. The Brownfield Center of Excellence includes members from EGPC, and delegates from IOCs.
The round table witnessed the participation of Abed Ezz El Regal, CEO of (EGPC) and Samir Abady, Deputy CEO at EGPC. Prominent figures from IOCs have also participated in the roundtable including; David Chi, Vice President (VP) and Country Manager at Apache Corporation; Tameer Nasser, Director and General Manager in Egypt & Sudan at Baker Hughes, Dave Thomas, CEO of Cheiron Petroleum Corporation; Tayeb Huwair, COO at Dragon Oil; Colby Fuser, VP of Halliburton Egypt and Libya; Giordano Crema, Acting General Manager and Operations Manager at the Italian Egyptian Oil Company (IEOC); Kamel Al-Sawi, President of Kuwait Energy Egypt; Karim Badawi, Managing Director at Schlumberger Egypt and East Mediterranean, Khaled Kacem VP, Country Chairman and Managing Director at Shell Egypt; Craig Robertson, Country Manager and Director at Transglobe Energy; and Sameh Sabry, Chairman of EOG Committee, and VP and Managing Director Wintershall Dea Egypt.
