Egypt Oil & Gas (EOG) Committee’s Task Force leaders presented their plans for 2022 during the Committee meeting which was held on January 20th under the chairmanship of David Chi, EOG Committee Chairman and Vice-President of Apache Corporation & Country Manager for Apache in Egypt.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary-General for the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) Osama Mobarez and Egypt Oil & Gas CEO Mohamed Fouad, among other senior officials.

The committee created a task force priority list which included the projects that have a significant impact. The list prioritized initiatives such as sustainable development, HSE, and capacity building.

First, Shell Egypt’s Social Performance Manager and Leader of the Sustainable Development Task Force Ahmed Al-Gabry illustrated a viable pathway to sustainability through providing a glimpse of the task force’s projects in 2022.

Gabry along with his team planned to implement the Aswan relief fund project, which will be delivered in Q1 2022. The project not only aligns with the Ministry’s vision, but it will also be set up under the auspices of His Excellency Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla. Furthermore, it will include small and medium enterprise (SME) development support services. Among the Task Force’s activities are CSR training, COP 27 engagement, the Ramadan campaign, and a disability project.

Gabry said that the CSR training mainly targets the newly formed CSR committee team members in the sector’s companies. Moving forward, he highlighted the importance of the sector’s response and engagement in the UN Climate Change Conference COP27. Thus, the committee will launch an energy efficiency awareness campaign within the sector’s companies and support undergraduates’ graduation projects tackling renewable and transition energy topics.

For his part, Halliburton’s HSE Manager and Leader of the HSE Task Force Hatem Bashandy offered insights on the task force action plan for 2022. Bashandy noted that building a strategic alliance with national and international oil companies can eliminate the safety hazards associated with the industry. He added that his task force’s team will mount a unified HSE campaign on a monthly and quarterly basis to all sector companies. Moreover, the team will engage in other activities including COVID-19 support, situational awareness, and a Ramadan campaign.

The United Oil and Gas (UOG) Country Manager and Leader of the Capacity Building Task Force Samir Abdelmoaty delivered a presentation on his task force’s strategic plan for 2022.  The plan involves establishing a mentoring and coaching program and, most importantly, a development program for youth. Additionally, it will maintain engagement through running Nxplorers, and the competition will introduce participants to complex topics related to sustainable development goals (SDGs) and sector-wide issues.
