Egypt Oil and Gas Committee has met on January 20 to form the new structure of the committee and set its new strategy as well as its taskforces activities.
The committee’ taskforces include Sustainable Development; Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Capacity Building, Brownfield, Digitalization, Energy Transition.
During the meeting, the committee’s members agreed that Energy Transition Task Force will work on the sector’s participation in COP 27 in 2022 and they prepared a plan to be presented to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla. Also, they agreed this task force will be led by Eni’s Energy Transition head.
Among the 2022 plans, the committee will take into consideration carbon dioxide (CO2) storage as an industry project that could be part of COP 27. For Capacity Building Taskforce plan, it will include the participation of young professionals from universities and different activity groups (SPE, AAPG, AMAL, etc..) to join and partake in 2022 initiatives.
Regarding Brownfield Task force, the members agreed to continue conducting technology transfer workshops in partnership with major oil companies. Meanwhile, the committee will organize Safety Awareness Campaign in its plan for 2022 as a part of HSE Taskforce activities.
The meeting was led by David Chi, the new chairman of the committee and attended by Osama Mobarez, the General Secretary of East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF).
