Egypt to Drill 20 Wells at Zohr Field

Petrobel’s CEO, Atef Hassan, stated that plans for Egypt’s giant Zohr field include the drilling and continuation of 20 wells, as well as the installation of 20 deep wellheads underwater. Additionally, the company will install measuring, protection and controlling equipment and gas transporting networks, reported Al Watan.

Hassan added that 3 electro-hydraulic control cables have been installed at the field. Total investments at Zohr are expected to range between $12-16b over the project’s lifecycle, with production peaking at 2.7bcf/d by the end of 2019.

Hassan comments came during Petrobel’s meeting with civil societies associated with the location of Zohr field. During the get together, Hassan urged the importance of complying with global and local environmental regulations during the project, to mitigate any negative impacts the project might have on the surrounding ecosystems.

The Egyptian government continues its support for the giant discovery, with special focus from the President, Abd El Fatah El Sisi, and the Minister of Petroleum, Tark El Molla. Egypt Oil&Gas previously reported that Italian Eni had stated that Zohr field’s original gas in place was 30tcf, after completing the drilling of the fifth well offshore Egypt.
