Egypt will chair the 24th ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) which will be held on Tuesday in Cairo, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced.
The meeting will be headed by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla and will be attended by the energy ministers of member countries and the observers.
The member countries include Egypt, Algeria, Qatar, Russia, Iran, Equatorial Guinea, Trinidad, Tobago, Venezuela, Nigeria and Bolivia, while the observer countries include UAE, Iraq, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Angola and Mozambique.
El Molla has met with Mohamed Hamel, the General Secretary of GECF to discuss the preparations for the meeting. Hamel has praised Egypt’s efforts to host such an event successfully.
The minister affirmed the importance of the forum at this crucial time in which energy security is needed, pointing to COP27 which will be held in Egypt as a good opportunity to confirm the significance of natural gas.
