Egypt, Global Energy Leaders Hold Talks on Field Development, Production, Investments at CERAWeek 2025

On the sidelines of CERAWeek 2025, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held meetings with CEOs of international companies to discuss production and investments.

In a meeting, Badawi discussed met with Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of Baker Hughes, the company’s operations in Egypt. The meeting further tackled Baker Hughes’ role in enhancing technological progress in the oil and gas sector, as well as providing advanced engineering and technical solutions for deepwater offshore fields.

Baker Hughes officials also reviewed the latest technological developments in drilling and production, highlighting the increasing momentum of drilling and well repair activities in the Mediterranean over the past six months.

For his part, Badawi emphasized the importance of Baker Hughes’ role as a strategic partner in the implementation of offshore field development projects in Egypt.

Badawi stated that the Ministry seeks to accelerate the pace of exploration and production, leverage modern digital solutions to improve operational performance, and enhance the sustainability of production processes.

In a separate meeting, Badawi talked with Patrick Pouyanné , Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. During the meeting, Badawi emphasized the significance of cooperation with TotalEnergies in the fields of upstream in Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean region, reviewing the MoPMR’s strategy to increase production and encourage investment.

The Minister also reviewed the current and future projects under the sixth pillar of the Ministry’s strategy, aimed at enhancing regional cooperation in the energy sector. This was after the signing of the Host Government Agreement for the development of the Cypriot Kronos field and its tie in with the Egyptian facilities, in partnership with Eni Energies et Services and TotalEnergies as partners in the development of this field.

Badawi highlighted the positive impact of this agreement in implementing Egypt’s vision to become a regional hub for energy trade as well as enabling companies to develop deepwater gas fields.
