Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met with a delegation from Egypt Amun Green Ammonia (EAGA), a consortium formed by Poland’s Hynfra and Egypt’s Coxswains, to discuss a planned green ammonia project. The initiative foresees initial investments of $5 billion, doubling upon reaching full capacity.
The project’s production is expected to commence by 2031 with an initial annual output of 400,000 tons, expandable to 1 million tons (mmt) in subsequent phases.
The meeting was attended by Tomoho Umeda, President of Hynfra, together with officials from the Ministry of Industry.
The project, to be located in Ras Banas in southeastern Egypt, will be powered by a hybrid renewable energy system with a total capacity of up to 2,000 megawatts (MW), evenly divided between solar and wind. Designed to operate independently of the national grid, the facility will cover an area of roughly 100 square kilometers.
Plans also call for the establishment of an integrated export infrastructure, including a dedicated port for green ammonia shipments. In its first phase, export revenues are projected at approximately $490 million annually, backed by contracts securing the entire production volume for markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
Hashem affirmed the ministry’s support for industrial initiatives that expand the role of renewable energy and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional and global hub for hydrogen and green ammonia production. He noted that the project is consistent with national efforts to localize advanced renewable technologies, diversify the energy mix, and ease demand on the national grid.
Meanwhile, Umeda emphasized that Hynfra seeks to leverage its century-long expertise in the ammonia industry to support Egypt, noting that the project is designed to integrate with key sectors, including agriculture, water, and energy, in alignment with broader economic development objectives.
Hynfra is a Poland‑based company specializing in renewable hydrogen and ammonia projects. The company has recently expanded its presence in Egypt through the establishment of Egypt Amun Green Ammonia JSC (EAGA), a joint venture (JV) with Egypt’s Coxswains. Meanwhile, Coxswains is a strategic marketing and commercial services company with activities spanning energy, media, hospitality, and industrial solutions.
