Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened the Supreme Council of Energy today to review the status of electricity, petroleum products, and natural gas supplies, according to a statement by the cabinet. During the session, the Council affirmed its commitment to securing energy requirements for national and industrial projects, ensuring operational sustainability while maximizing productive capacities. This strategic coordination is designed to bolster economic growth and accelerate the localization of domestic industry amidst prevailing regional and international challenges.
Attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, the session focused on securing the energy supplies required for diverse industrial activities. These efforts are guided by the national energy strategy, which seeks to align energy production and consumption with Egypt’s sustainable development goals. Furthermore, the Council emphasized that ensuring energy security serves as a vital pillar for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and bolstering national exports of high-quality products.
Moreover, it was reaffirmed that the Supreme Council of Energy is committed to maximizing the returns from generated energy. The national energy strategy aims to increase reliance on renewable sources, enhance their economic benefits, and reduce the use of fossil fuels, in line with the national energy mix strategy and the economic and social development plans.
The meeting saw extensive participation from key cabinet members, including Hussein Issa, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs; Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Transport; and Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance. Also in attendance were Waleid Gamal Eldien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), and several other ministers overseeing Planning, Industry, and Housing.
The Supreme Council of Energy is one of Egypt’s highest-level bodies for national energy policy, established in 1979 to coordinate strategy, planning, and governance across the electricity and petroleum sectors.
