Egypt Mining Forum Kicks Off in Cairo

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla inaugurated the activities of the Egypt Mining Forum 2023 in its second edition on July 18th.

The forum’s inauguration was attended by Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry; and Yonis Ali Guedi, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Djibouti, along with CEOs of leading local and international mining companies.

During his speech, El Molla announced that the Egyptian mining sector is about to launch a set of bids for precious and basic metals, in addition to phosphates, sulfur and potash during the current quarter of this year.

The minister stated that the Egypt Mining Forum comes as a major event on the global and regional mining agenda. This comes according to a clear vision of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) for the development of mineral resources. Egypt has begun the journey of launching the optimal exploitation of these resources in light of the political stability and economic reform that the country is witnessing.

El Molla explained that Egypt has a long history in the field of mining dating back to ancient times.

The present Egypt has the potential to be one of the best mining regions in the world, and indeed it has become present on the global mining investment map, the minister noted.

Egypt has also achieved success stories in developing its wealth in line with green mining, which is seen as an extension and translation of the commitments of COP27.
