Egypt, Jordan Near Completion of Key Gas Compresser Station

During his official visit to Jordan, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected the construction of the Al-Khonastri gas compressor station, a key project executed by Egyptian petroleum sector companies.

Located in northern Jordan, the project is being built for the Jordanian Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company by a consortium comprising PETROJET and Enppi. Officials said the project is over 96% complete.

The Al-Khonastri facility will support Jordan’s domestic gas network and enhance the Arab Gas Pipeline’s capacity. This project strengthens energy security and gas supply flexibility for both nations, reinforcing cross-border cooperation.

Attendees included Yasser Salah El-Din, Chairman of the Jordanian Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company; and Sufyan Al-Bataineh, Director General of Jordan’s National Electric Power Company. They were accompanied by Walid Lotfy, Chairman of PETROJET; and Khaled Ibrahim, Chairman of Enppi.

During the briefing, Badawi said he was impressed by the project’s compliance with safety standards, calling the workforce from Jordanian Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company, PETROJET, and Enppi a source of pride and ambassadors for the Egyptian petroleum sector. The inspection followed meetings between Badawi and his Jordanian counterpart, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, which focused on regional integration, infrastructure, and mining cooperation. This is the first time Badawi has visited Jordan on official business this year.
