Egypt allocated total EGP 57 million for the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) in fiscal year 2017/2018, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy’s First Undersecretary, Mousa Omran, told Amwal Al Ghad.
The Public Treasury is contributing with EGP 52 million of the allocations, while the EAEA is self-funding its projects with EGP 5 million to develop radiation emergency programs and have automatic mechanism for the EAEA.
EAEA is developing the 22 MW capacity research reactor, and developing EAEA’s production laboratories as well as radiation units at the radiation technology center, Omran pointed out.
The Egyptian electricity sector supports expansion in different power generating ways, including traditional sources and renewables, in order to achieve the state’s strategy to be producing 20% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
