A source with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) ensured Egypt Oil&Gas that the amounts of diesel, benzene and butane pumped into the market are enough to cover local demands, despite claims of supply shortage, which he attributed to unscrupulous behavior.
Currently, EGPC daily pumps 18,000 tones of benzene and 37,000 tones of diesel to the domestic market. Furthermore, the government is observing distribution channels in order to end the crisis.
In related news, Egypt is considering to increase fuel imports from Saudi Arabia starting January 2017, to reach 900,000 tons of benzene and diesel. The government aims to push benzene imports to 2.3m tons during the current fiscal year 2016/2017. In addition, the petroleum ministry is planning to increase local production of crude oil to 700,000b/d within the year.
