EGPC Boosts Environmental Compliance Among Petroleum Companies

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) organized an environmental workshop for petroleum companies operating in the North and East Gulf of Suez and Red Sea regions as part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR )’s strategy to strengthen environmental performance across the sector.

The workshop, led by EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Kerim, focused on advancing environmental sustainability through practical solutions, knowledge sharing, and the replication of successful practical solutions.

The first day of the workshop, hosted at the General Petroleum Corporation (GPC)’s Ras Gharib fields, reviewed key environmental challenges facing companies in the region as well as progress in implementing corrective measures aimed at enhancing compliance and improving field monitoring systems.

The second day, hosted at the Ras Gharib fields affiliated to  Scimitar Production Egypt Limited , highlighted successful case studies and practical experiences in energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction. Participants also exchanged lessons learned and best practices to support broader adoption across the petroleum sector, stated EGPC on June 8.

The workshop reflects EGPC’s commitment to embedding sustainability principles into day-to-day operations. This contributes to the petroleum sector’s efforts to balance production objectives with environmental protection, resource efficiency, and continuous operational improvement, according to the statement.

Earlier this week, EGPC launched an initiative to develop the environmental performance across its affiliated companies. The initiative, EGPC Green Oilfield, will issue a unified technical guide setting minimum environmental requirements for companies. It will also establish standardized models for data collection, performance indicators, corrective action plans, and technical monitoring records.
