China’s SANY Group, a leading global wind turbine manufacturer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to establish Egypt’s first wind turbine manufacturing plant and develop a wind power project in the North Gulf of Suez.
The MoU provides for the construction of a factory within the Suez Canal Economic Zone to produce turbines and components for domestic wind projects, while exporting surplus output to regional markets. It also covers the development of a 2,000‑MW wind farm, to be implemented in local currency, in line with Egypt’s national energy strategy.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat, underscoring the government’s commitment to localizing renewable energy technologies.
The signed MoU comes within the framework of a plan to support industry and localize modern technology, increase the share of local components in renewable energy projects, expand the manufacturing of electrical equipment, and implement solar and wind energy projects using local currency. It also aims to leverage Egypt’s trade agreements to boost exports to Africa and the Middle East.
Madbouly affirmed that President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi, is closely following and regularly reviewing renewable energy projects. He added that the government is keen to maintain ongoing cooperation among all state institutions and relevant entities, in partnership with both local and foreign private sectors, to implement these projects within the framework of the national energy strategy.
In January 2026, Esmat met with a delegation from SANY Global to discuss partnership models and mechanisms for the localization of SANY’s advanced wind turbine technology, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Founded in 1989, SANY has evolved into a global leader in heavy equipment manufacturing. Its portfolio spans concrete, earthmoving, hoisting, road and piling machinery, port handling systems, and mining equipment. In parallel, the company has expanded into renewable energy, producing wind turbines, solar modules, hydrogen systems, and storage solutions—positioning itself as a comprehensive provider across both conventional and clean energy sectors.
